Swissotel Metropole hotel
The Swiss Metropole Hotel is a luxurious and elegant neo-classical property, built in 1854 on the city's ancient fortifications. The lobby is large and luxurious with a polished marble floor, mirrors and high vaulted ceilings. Beautiful pictures and antique furniture add to the impression of opulence. The 127 guestrooms are decorated in a traditional style, accented with wood panelling, and have modern amenities like CD and DVD players and espresso coffee machines. All are clean and well maintained, as are the en suite marble bathrooms. "Le Grand Quai," a fine dining restaurant, is a true jewel of the Belle Epoque, offering creative international cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner in an elegant and refined setting. In the summer, guests can enjoy its lovely terrace, which looks across at the beautiful L’Horloge Fleurie and the Jardin Anglais. A Continental buffet breakfast is offered every morning in the elegant brasserie on the ground floor.

A fine hotel in a great spot on the left bank.
Switzerland is expensive and that makes this hotel great value. If you stay for 4 nights or more you get a travel card for the trams-great to get around the city
Top Tip
generally fine quality all around-the food in Globus dept store is excellent value lunch time-12.30 to 1.30 very busy but either side is ok.

Top class hotel in prime Geneva location. Everything one would expect of a 5-star establishment
Top Tip
The hotel provides a free bus / tram pass and this saves a lot of money since taxis are quite expense in the city

My overall impression was very good. However, on the cleanliness of the room, I think if one finds a pubic hair in the middle of a supposedly clean tub, even if it is one's own, that is very off putting.
One day as I was searching for a lost suitcase key, I found a button on the floor that was not mine plus a miniature Toblerone, so the room obviously had not been Hoovered properly.
My one salad I ordered was tired and not at all appetizing.
The toilet paper for such a high-price hotel was very cheap and nasty (rough).
Despite all that, as I had to be there for five nights, the rest of my stay was very good.
Top Tip
The Olt Town is only minutes away and well worth a visit.
